Frank Karl joined the firm Zwicker Schnappauf & Partner Patentanwälte PartG mbB in 2018. He is admitted at the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court, the European Union Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office.
His main area of practice is in the drafting of German, European and international patent applications and in the prosecution of the related grant procedures.
Frank Karl studied electrical engineering and specialized in theoretical electro-technics. The title of his diploma was “The use of cellular neural networks for the calculation of steady state electromagnetic fields”. He is author of several surveys about patent applications in the field of electro mobility.
Frank Karl has a long experience in drafting patent applications for instance in the following fields: solar technology (thin film solar modules), electronics in keyboards, closed loop control (vector control) for electrical motors (e.g. hysteresis motor) and power electronic devices.
Furthermore, in the field of computer implemented inventions (CII) Frank has drafted patent applications and reached the grant of patents for instance in the following areas:
– Method for nonlinear optimization using Kalman filter,
– Method for improving the Viterbi algorithm, and
– Method for enabling network redundancy in an access network, messages and nodes (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol).
Furthermore, Frank has special knowledge in the protection of methods that are relevant for Industry 4.0:
– Neural networks (NN),
– Cellular neural networks (CNN), and
– Fuzzy systems.
