Dr. Karl Thieme is working as trainee patent attorney since 2018 in the law firm Zwicker Schnappauf & Partner Patentanwälte PartG mbB with the aim to become a German patent attorney as well as European patent attorney.
Karl’s area of practice is drafting and prosecution of German, European, and international patent applications. Further, he assists the attorneys of ZSP in opposition, infringement, and nullity proceedings of German and European patents.
Karl studied Biology (BSc) at the Georg August University Göttingen and at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry Göttingen and Microbiology (MSc) at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg. For his master thesis on transcription factors in the human pathogenic bacterium Yersinia pseudotuberculosis he worked at the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research in Braunschweig. He then prepared his doctoral thesis as a member of the graduate program “Microbiology and Biochemistry” of the Göttingen Graduate Center for Neurosciences, Biophysics and Molecular Biosciences in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Genetics of Prof. Dr. Gerhard H. Braus at the Georg August University Göttingen. His doctoral thesis dealt with the transcriptional regulation of developmental programs and secondary metabolism in the genetic model organism Aspergillus nidulans and in the human pathogenic fungus Aspergillus fumigatus. During his dissertation, Karl successfully completed the distance study program “patent right for engineers and natural scientists” of the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin.
