Dr. Georg Schnappauf is active in the intellectual property field for almost 20 years and is a Partner with Zwicker Schnappauf & Partner PartG mbB since 2002. As European Patent Attorney, German Patent Attorney and European Trademark and Design Attorney, Dr. Schnappauf is admitted before the European Patent Office, the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court, and the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Dr. Schnappauf represents well known European, US, and Japanese companies.

Dr. Schnappauf counsels clients in all aspects of intellectual property law, including strategic management of patent portfolios, due diligence investigations, and freedom to operate investigations. His wide-ranging expertise includes patent prosecution, opposition, appeal and litigation proceedings and extends over the full range of pharmaceutical and chemical technologies including the field of medical devices. Cases handled by Dr. Schnappauf led to path-breaking decisions which were also printed in EPO’s Official Journal and cited by various other decisions.

Prior to becoming a Patent Attorney, Dr. Schnappauf successfully completed the studies General Law for Patent Attorneys at the Distance-Learning University of Hagen and undertook periods of training at the German Patent and Trademark Office, Munich (Patent Division and Trademark Division), at the German Federal Patent Court, Munich (Technical Board of Appeal and Board of Appeal for Trademarks) and at the District Court (Patent Litigation Chamber), Munich.

Dr. Schnappauf studied biology with a focus on biochemistry, molecular biology and organic chemistry at the Friedrich-Alexander-University, Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Schnappauf’s Ph.D. study was a cooperation project with the 1976 Nobel Price winner in chemistry, William N. Lipscomb, from Harvard University, USA. As a Ph.D. student, Dr. Schnappauf worked at the Georg-August-University, Göttingen, Germany, the Friedrich-Alexander-University, Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, the Harvard University, USA and the University of California, Berkeley, USA. Dr. Schnappauf worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich, Switzerland.

Dr. Schnappauf is an active member in the specialized comities “Industrial Property Rights and Technical Contracts” and “German-US-American Co-operation” of Bio Deutschland.

Dr. Schnappauf regularly gives lectures and seminars on European and German patent law in Europe, the USA, and Asia and is author of many scientific publications and publications concerning patent law.
